Haralambos (Harry) Hatzakis, co-founder and CEO of Biotronics 3D

Biotronics 3D

Biotronics 3D, a company that has developed medical image analysis and visualisation technology, is the latested Gateway To Investment company to receive venture capital investment.  In July 2008 the company received £1.3m from Longbow Capital.  With £50m funds under management and as the founding partners of the Boots Innovation Centre, Longbow Capital is the UK's leading specialist investor in unquoted Healthcare Technologies.  It's portfolio companies include PolyTherics, Destiny Pharma, PWB Health and CyDen.

"The Gateway to Investment programme was an invaluable resource to the management of Biotronics 3D in our search for venture capital investment."

Two entrepreneurs had developed and started to market an innovative software application in the medical imagery space.  The management were facing the challenges of taking the product to market, and of securing funding to achieve rapid growth.  Of particular concern was an inability

to clearly articulate the benefits of the product and why it would be successful in the market place, coupled with queries relating to the regulatory environment.  The company was referred to Gateway to Investment by the London Technology Network.

After an initial assessment and induction process, Haralambos (Harry) Hatzakis, Biotronics 3D CEO, and Soeren Grimm, CTO, completed the g2i programme.  Assistance and mentoring focused on the route to market, legal considerations, the importance of their intellectual property strategy and financial options for investment structures.  Before investor introductions, the consortium drafted and advised on the company's investment collateral, including the business plan, business model, opportunity note and investor presentation.

The consortium advised Biotronics 3D on those venture capital funds that would be interested in investing in a product of this nature.  Having agreed a short list of preferred potential investors, the consortium made the relevant investor introductions.  One of these intgroductions was to Julian Hickman, a Partner at Longbow Capital.  Following the introduction negotiations commenced culminating in an offer of investment in July 2008.
